Facebook built an enormous ad machine. It’s hard to grasp it without ever using it once and even if you’d have done that, you’re miles away from fully understanding it.
It gets to a point where it’s likely that not even those who are building it are fully understanding it. Sure, some people there need to know the big picture, but here’s a good comparison:
It’s like trying to understand the internet. This example is a bit of a stretch but the point it: you’re creating something that’s larger than yourself or even the whole company.
That’s when something is considered complex.
Facebook’s ad machine, Google’s ad machine or the internet — they are all platforms. Gateways between people.
