How To Pick An Agency That Will Get You The Most Return On Your Investment As A Tech Company — Part 8

This is part 8 and it’ll be the last one before I take some time to curate all parts into one big piece.

The last thing I’d like to add when it comes to picking an agency is pretty straightforward. All I’ve said so far are red flags you might want to look out to in order to catch some cues and/or filter out what you won’t be looking to work with.

What happens after that?

How do I pick between my options?

I have two things to say.

  1. Is pretty much common sense: see their work (again) and decide whether their style matches what you want and need.

If they have a process (which they should!) put in place, another reason for them doing that is to be consistent among the results they’re delivering to their customers.

In other words, chances are you’ll get something along the lines of quality that’s put out in their case studies. And when I say “style” I don’t mean just visual/aesthetic style. I mean: does it look like they actually solved the problem?

Do they convince you that indeed they made a place that makes less people unsubscribe? Or one that made more people go from the pricing page to the “Thank you for joining us!” page?

  1. I’d check out to see if they produce content. Informative, free content. Not sales content.

It doesn’t have to be daily or hourly. It could be weekly or biweekly, whatever they think they can handle. However, when I see someone producing content, that means they’re looking to do more than just selling.

Indeed, content creation can be centered around selling — but if done right, it enables selling only as a side-effect. If the agency I’m considering is producing content so as to help people without any investment (besides time), that’s a healthy sign. The mindset behind it is explained in this other piece I’ve written.

When someone is looking to do more than just sales, it means they’re in a good position. At the same time, I think it’s a cornerstone that will shape the new business model.
