Go 10 times as much as competition goes.
10 times faster, better or stronger than whatever’s out there. Not to have this become a mantra or a governing law of “They wrote 500 words, we’ll write 5000” — but you get what I mean.
If they save 5 seconds, we’ll aim to save a minute. We might not really get to 60 seconds but hey, we’re saving 20 seconds now and that’s still progress.
If they’re integrating 3 platforms, we’ll be integrating 5. And that opens more doors.
Either that, or…
If the competition is nothing, 10 times 0 is 0. You can go from 0 to 1 or from 1 to n, to borrow Peter Thiel’s concept.
When you put yourself in a blue ocean, there’s no 10x. But two things are happening:
- There’s still indirect competition, so you can look at that
- Once your product is used, those that will try to replicate what you do will be thinking in 10x terms. This thought might help, since you’d want to widen the gap between yourself and them.
