Game of Thrones took some parts of Lord of The Rings and turned into a tv series.
Longer screen time than the LOTR movies, the build-up for fans spans across 9 years and the impact is higher also because of the times in which it became “viral” — times in which media consumption has gone nowhere but up.
I’m pretty sure some ideas will be taken out of Harry Potter and implemented into a TV show.
The land grab was there from 2003 to 2011 for Game of Thrones — and there’s no doubt the LOTR movies were a catalyst for GOT to become a TV series (from being just the books I mean). Harry Potter’s elements are just awaiting just like the 2003-2011 opportunity.
Star Wars went the other way around. They’ve made a series of movies, where Star Trek was the show.
No, I’m not saying they’re the same — far from it. All I’m saying is that the “genre” was confirmed by either one of the two (series or movie) which became a catalyst for the second one.
How is that relevant to SaaS?
In a nutshell, it’s either:
- Software products that need more service. See: Photoshop and Sketch.
- Service companies needing more “software”. See banks and PayPal or the plethora of other millions of examples where disruption happened.
If the software was validated and you feel like there could be more “service” factor added to it — that’s your land grab. It’s been confirmed
If a service company can automate its processes due to some software you can think of — that’s your land grab. It’s been confirmed.
