Multiple SaaS Players In The Same Room

If you’re looking for enterprise-level services, there are two big names on the list out there: G Suite and Office 365.

In other words, Google and Microsoft. Somehow there’s space for both of them in the market. Yes, we can get into the trenches of it and analyse who’s doing better but I think we can look at something else: positioning.

One is more suited for younger, tech-savvier and more modern audiences. The other one is aimed more at the corporate, probably-blue-coloured-logo audience.

And somehow they both share the market. They’re direct competitors but both types of tribes find their way into the right pigeonhole. With exceptions, of course, we’re talking about the average numbers.

There’s a reason why Microsoft Teams exists and Google did not counterpunch this one. Google knows their audience is on Slack so there’s no point in trying to compete in a bloody terrain.

The bottom line? There can be enough space for multiple players, given they’re positioned properly.

But the ideal move is that you’ll widen the gap between yourself and the next contestants so that they won’t try in the first place.
