How Do You Know You’ve Made A Successful Platform? Like This.

There’s no such thing as SMSEO — social media search engine optimization.

There is, actually, I’ve googled it. But it’s not a well-established concept. There is, though, a thing like post optimisation:

  1. Use Photoshop/other editing tools
  2. Add a filter, if you’re not into editing tools
  3. Add some hashtags
  4. Tag someone
  5. Write in the caption “share this with three friends”
  6. Collaborate with an influencer/other relevant accounts
  7. etc

It’s been gamified. Much like SEO in search engines. People are not trying to optimise the search engine in a social media platform because that’s not really how the game works. The home screen of a platform is not a search bar.

The bar is there, but in an upper corner somewhere. It’s an auxiliary tool. What I’m pointing out is this:

This is how the social media game is. And that is how the search engine game is.

Amazon has been gamified as well. We can go into it, I’ll just mention: search term optimisation, buying reviews for your product, buying bad reviews for your competition etc.

All these three places are successful platforms. People started gaming it because there’s money behind it. But it doesn’t have to all about money. People gamify things for other results as well. See: Tinder.

That’s how you know when you’ve made a big platform — when people want to game it.

P.S: Just wanted to drop this as a platform that people have gamified: crypto kitties.
